A step by step guide to what, where and how, when advertising in the Jersey Evening Post
Step 6
Fonts and text
The general rule of thumb when making up your advertisement is not to use too many different styles of font. The more you use, the busier the advertisement will look, becoming harder on the eye for the reader.
Try not to make Try not to make your text too small either. This also makes it difficult for the reader. Try to rephrase your copy if it is too long rather than make the font size smaller to fit it all in.
Once you are happy with the design of your advertisement, you should run your spell checking option to make sure that there are no embarrassing spelling mistakes on your advertisement.
Before supplying us with your artwork, you will need to use a programme to embed all your fonts into your advertisement. This is required to prevent your text reflowing or setting itself automatically because different computers are supplied with different fonts and it is unlikely that we will have exactly the same fonts as you.
If you do not have the facility to embed fonts, software can be purchased to do it. The JEP recommends FontIncluder as an effective tool for embedding fonts. It is available for Apple Macs and PC from XChange International, telephone 020 7588 5588.
