Poldark hosts cookery show

Recipes and Recollections: A Delicious Night with Robin Ellis is at the Merton Hotel on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 October, with tickets, including a three-course meal, priced at £34.95, £39.95 and £45.95.

Robin was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes soon after he moved to the South of France with his American journalist wife, Meredith Wheeler, nearly 20 years ago.

After the initial shock, he became determined to manage his condition through diet. Already a keen cook, his diabetes took him down a new culinary path and resulted in the publication of his three healthy-eating cook books for diabetics.

At the event at the Merton Hotel next month, he will show guests how to prepare some of the recipes from the latest of his cook books, which are specifically aimed at those who have diabetes, those who want to prevent diabetes, or those who just want to eat healthy, easy-to-prepare and tasty food. The three-course meal, which will be served after the show in the Merton’s Belvedere Restaurant, will be using his recipes.

‘The evening will be illustrated with film clips and photographs from both the original and current Poldark series, as well as other aspects of his wide-ranging career, which has included a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as appearances in such diverse shows as Wallander and Fawlty Towers,’ said organiser and Diabetes Jersey fundraising chairwoman Mary Young.
