Former Tory spin doctor paid £30,000

Mr Jones started working for the government early last year, when he was paid £18,000 for 12 days’ work. He was then contracted to work for Chief Minister Ian Gorst one day a week at a cost of £875 per day, billing the States £10,500 between June and October.

The States have now confirmed that he has not worked for them since December.

The statement followed questions from this newspaper about Mr Jones’ current involvement with government.

In total he has been paid almost £30,000 in less than a year, but the JEP has been told that no exact figure was currently available.

Mr Jones’ services to the States included supporting Senator Gorst on matters regarding Brexit and on other international issues and the response to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry.

He also attended the Conservative Party Conference at the beginning of October to provide paid advice to Senator Gorst.

While working in Jersey Mr Jones paid all of his own travel and accommodation expenses.
