Just hours left to cast Pride of Jersey votes

The public response since voting opened last week has been overwhelming, with 14,336 votes received from readers within the first 24 hours of the polls opening. So far 30,142 votes have been cast in this year’s competition.

And Islanders are still being encouraged to cast their vote in each of the 12 categories to ensure that their favourite candidate is in with a chance of winning. From inspirational leaders to grandparents, and volunteers to environmentalists, all of the nominees in the running are highly deserving of recognition. Voting will close at midnight on Sunday, after which the top three people in each category will have their nominations scrutinised by a judging panel.

Last year more than 20,000 public votes were received for more than 200 nominees.

This year’s ceremony, sponsored by Dandara, is due to take place on Saturday 22 September at Government House. The 12 winners will be announced at the ceremony and each will receive a prize to the value of £1,000 from their category’s sponsor. Since the Pride of Jersey Awards were launched four years ago, the judging panels have comprised a representative from each sponsor, the previous year’s winner and a JEP employee.

To vote, log on to prideofjersey.com. Although it is possible to cast multiple votes for each nominee, the Pride of Jersey website runs an algorithm that keeps a record of votes received from the same source. The system then automatically discounts these multiple votes to ensure a true reflection of voting numbers.
