The driver was helped out of his car by a member of the public, who put out the blaze using an extinguisher from the food outlet.
The accident left the car and the railings on the central island badly damaged.
In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Thankfully, it is believed that the driver’s injuries are not life threatening.
‘The Fire and Rescue Service would like to commend those brave members of public that came to the driver’s aid. The photo paints a thousand words and clearly shows that the outcome could have been far worse.’
