The court heard that on 26 August Emanuel Jose de Nobrega Agrela punched another man in the head in Route du Fort.
The accused had been drinking.
Police legal adviser Susie Sharpe said that CCTV images captured the two men in an angry verbal exchange.
The victim was seen attempting to leave the area, but things became heated again when Agrela refused to shake the man’s hand, the court heard.
Agrela then followed the man ‘sporadically’ as he walked away, before he was seen to take the man to the ground and punch him in the face. The victim sustained a black eye, she said.
Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu noted that alcohol had clearly been a factor in the assault. He ordered that a social inquiry report be prepared prior to sentencing.
Agrela was released on bail and must reappear in the Magistrate’s Court on 11 December.
