Jet skier injury: Speedboat driver to be sentenced

Michael Bartlomiej Dornyek admitted operating a ship without due care and attention which was accepted by the prosecution.

Lawyer Giles Corbin nearly lost a leg in the accident when the jet ski he was a passenger on collided with the speedboat.

Dornyek denied two further charges – one of operating a ship in a dangerous manner and one of grave and criminal assault.

Those charges will remain on file.

He had initially pleaded not guilty to all three charges and had been due to stand trial next month.

However, he appeared before the Royal Court on Friday to admit one count and is to be sentenced on Monday 18 February.

Deputy Bailiff Tim Le Cocq said: ‘The other two counts will remain on file for the time being and will be dealt with at the time of sentence.’

Dornyek was remanded on bail.
