RNLI tribute to three French crew who died

RNLI tribute to three French crew who died

The three who died were part of a crew of seven that had gone to the aid of another boat that had got into difficulties last Friday as Storm Miguel battered the west coast of France.

Winds of up to 80 mph hit the area and the rescue boat capsized before running ashore upside down.

Yesterday, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, lead the tributes at a national service in Les Sables-d’Olonne.

Both St Helier crews and the St Catherine’s lifeboat crew joined the operations team, fundraising crew, shore crews, volunteers and the RNLI lifeguards at a gathering at the St Helier lifeboat station on Wednesday to pay tribute. A minute’s silence was held at 6.30pm.

The two inshore lifeboats and the all-weather lifeboat pictured are relief vessels, while all three Jersey boats are being refitted in the UK.

Those are due to return to the Island later in the year.
