Jersey family opens cannabidiol franchise store

Islander Colin Toudic and his family have bought the Channel Islands’ franchise for retailer Green Machine, a UK CBD retailing chain. CBD – Cannabidiol – is the non-intoxicating component in cannabis and is used to make a variety of products from tea to oils, cakes and liquids for e-cigarettes.

The new Jersey store has opened on Market Street.

Mr Toudic said that he plans to open a branch in Guernsey in the future. He added: ‘We have bought it as a family and it will create two job roles. I think CBD products are the biggest thing at the moment after Brexit.

‘People take CBD for a whole host of reasons such as pain relief or for help with sleeping.’

The shop opened on Saturday with a competition taking place giving people the chance to win a hamper of CBD products.

Alongside selling the products the staff at the shop can sit down with customers and discuss CBD products so they can learn more about them.

Mr Toudic added: ‘We are not going to just sell the products, we want people to come in and talk to us. They will be able to have a chat and a coffee with us so we can explain more about the products.

‘One thing we won’t be doing is selling products to under-18s. There isn’t a rule when it comes to an age limit on products but it is something we are choosing to do.’

CBD products are different to medicinal cannabis. Laws have changed recently to allow doctors to prescribe medicinal cannabis and for it to be cultivated on the Island.
