Drivers urged to take care after 70mph winds bring down trees

Many roads have been left covered in debris and a number of roads and lanes have been blocked by fallen trees.

In a Facebook post, the States police said: ‘As you are most likely aware, there is some bad weather. There are several trees down due to the winds which has blocked many roads.

‘If you don’t need to go out it is best to stay in. Drivers please take care and drive appropriately as there may be a tree in the road on the next corner. Be safe.’

According to reports, a tree fell outside Waitrose car park in St Brelade. A tree has also fallen in St Peter’s Valley although the road is still open.

There are further reports of trees down in St Martin and Five Oaks.
