Weekend violence: Five assaulted in two attacks

One woman, aged 33, was still in hospital yesterday, the JEP understands, after suffering injuries during an alleged assault by a stranger near Colomberie at about 2.50am.

Three other women, all aged between 22 and 33, were also assaulted, the States police say.

A 28-year-old man was arrested near Howard Davis Park a short time later. After spending 12 hours in police custody he was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

And in a separate incident a man in his 20s suffered injuries to his face after he was attacked while walking back from town with a takeaway between 2.25am and 2.40am.

The victim was repeatedly punched in the face until he fell to the ground outside Vauxhall Gardens on Vauxhall Street, where the attack continued.

The suspect, who was with a group of five to ten others immediately before the incident, is described as in his late 20s or early 30s, with receding brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a blue top. It is believed he left the area in the direction of New Street or Val Plaisant.

A States police spokeswoman said: ‘There was a brief disagreement between the suspect and the victim, following which the suspect has started to repeatedly punch the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, where the suspect continued to punch him to the face.’

The victim is described as being 6ft tall, with short brown hair. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the States police on 612612, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
