Deputy Kirsten Morel asked Senator Ian Gorst what ‘conversations’ were being held with French authorities to reopen the Breton port’s sea link to the Island with appropriate border control procedures in place.
The minister said that the matter had been elevated to the French central government in Paris.
‘I have had conversations at regional level with the president of the La Manche department and they have been translated up to Paris,’ he said.
‘It is far too early to say what the results of those conversations will be. Officials likewise have had conversations with their counterparts as well.’
He added that he had also had conversations with the president of the Ille-et-Vilaine department, in which St Malo is located, regarding the matter.
