Work on Sion Co-op to start in August

The building previously used by the garden- and outdoor-equipment supplier has recently been demolished and contractors are preparing to move onto the plot.

A Co-op En Route shop and petrol station is due to be open by the end of next year.

Jim Plumley, chief development officer at the Co-op, said: ‘We have appointed Mitchell as the main contractor, who are planning to commence on site in early August. The construction will take around 50 weeks and we are aiming to open our new En Route store in late 2021.’

He added: ‘The new store will also provide a range of fresh and ambient products, as well as fuel, to meet the needs of the local community, similar to our existing En Routes at St Peter and St Mary. The store will also include 22 parking spaces, including mother and toddler and disabled. We will also be providing a number of electric-car charging points and will be providing a new bus shelter.

‘The society is looking forward to opening this new store and extending the range of the Co-operative shopping experience to a wide range of members.’

JFTU has moved their store to their base at Rue du Trot in St Saviour.
