Leonis trio await reports on England talent camp

In Berinfield, the trio were among 200 boxers from various clubs in the country who took part in sparring sessions with England coaches.

Bushell, who has had 19 bouts since first stepping into the ring in April 2013, said: ‘It was an assessment camp and it was really busy as there were 200 boxers taking part in sparing sessions in three rings at the gym.

‘Everyone was split into groups depending on weight and sparring was against England youth boxers, the Army and senior elite boxers – both male and female.

‘I got to spar against a few of the England Youth team who are off the Commonwealth Games and it was a great experience.

‘It was a good networking exercise as well and I’ve been invited back again this weekend, but I’ll have to wait and see what happens as I may be boxing in the Elite Championships this weekend.’

The former Team Jets netball player, who was runner-up in the 57k B Class at the Haringey Box Cup in London last June, added: ‘Tom and Alex enjoyed the experience as well; Alex sparred against the seniors and both looked strong in their groups.’

Leonis coach Miguel Ferreira made the contact for the Leonis trio to attend the talent camp and club officials now await any feedback from the event.
