Jersey FA pushed towards Slovakian showdown

In September the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered that Jersey’s application be discussed at Uefa’s annual Ordinary Congress, where all 55 member nations would vote on the fate of Island football.

Springfield officials had wanted to delay their congress appearance until 2019 to give themselves time to earn the backing of at least 28 nations, but European football’s governing body has lodged the case for formal consideration in Bratislava, Slovakia on 26 February 2018.

The decision goes against the words of Uefa executive Marc Esselink, who indicated during a summer visit to Jersey that the process would not be rushed.

JFA president Phil Austin says he is considering whether to ‘contest’ the 14-week timeline.
