Jersey Combination set for Inter League

Gotland 2017 shot-stoppers Euan van der Vliet and Dan Birrell are both unavailable – the latter due to his U18 status – so St Clement’s Bradley Rolland and Trinity’s Jose Figueira come in as the 2012 champions attempt to reach the quarter-finals for the fourth time in five campaigns since 2010.

Again restricted by tournament selection criteria, which permit a maximum of seven players per club and exclude former professionals, Cassidy has chosen his latest squad of 16 from six Combination clubs. St Peter winger Harry Cardwell is again included, with Figueira – an Island Games volleyball player – the only man picked from the Championship.

‘Luckily we’re blessed with decent goalkeepers in Jersey,’ said Cassidy.

‘Euan is away, but we’ve worked with Jose before and Brad has done really well this season for St Clement.

‘Everyone is in good form at the moment and is looking good – we’re all excited and looking forward to it after getting a good result in the last round.

‘We’re expecting to put on a good show.’

Van der Vliet’s absence provides room for Harry Curtis as the seventh St Paul’s representative, after the defender missed the first round victory against Essex Olympian League. St Peter and Jersey Wanderers have three representatives apiece.

The winners of tomorrow’s tie will face Essex & Suffolk Border League in the last eight – the side that knocked Jersey out in round two when the competition was held in 2015/16.

Jersey Football Combination: Bradley Rolland, Jose Figueira, Harry Curtis, Luke Campbell, Calvin Weir, James Querée, Jack Cannon, Michael Weir, Kamen Nafkha, Craig Russell, Adam Trotter, Matt Rawlings, Karl Hinds, Elliot Poole, Kieran Lester, Harry Cardwell.
