Jersey FA set for Sky Sports appearance

In a week when the European governing body are expected to officially commit membership documents to their agenda, Austin is hoping to use the UK media to highlight his hopes, and indeed concerns, regarding an application process that has recently entered its third year.

All 55 Uefa nations are due to vote on Jersey’s case at their annual Ordinary Congress in Bratislava on 26 February, despite calls from Springfield to have the discussions delayed until 2019.

‘We would really like Uefa to give us more time to lobby and get our story over a bit more,’ said Austin.

‘I really think our case has merit and I would like to engage with Uefa on how and when we can become members, if not now.

‘It [the media coverage] is not going to get us any votes … I’m just trying to raise the profile of our application because I’m assuming that at the moment not many of the 55 members know much about it.

‘We’d like to engage with the members before they go to a vote.’

Jersey won a Court of Arbitration for Sport appeal against immediate rejection in September 2017, with Uefa being told by lawyers in Switzerland that they must put the application to a vote.

The JFA’s story – since they first submitted papers in December 2015 – is also due to be told by national newspapers this week.
