ConIFA World Cup squad named . . . but will competition go ahead?

Club officials have this week unveiled a 19-strong provisional squad for the global event in Skopje, which is set to begin on 30 May but is likely to be affected by increasing concerns over coronavirus.

PoJ are also due to travel to Surrey earlier in May to play in the newly-formed Southern Frontier Cup, alongside World Cup-bound North American side Cascadia, Yorkshire and the host county.

Scott’s squad includes eight players who featured for Jersey in their latest Inter-League Cup tie earlier this month – and 11 of the 2019 Muratti-winning squad.

‘The whole world is very uncertain at the moment but you can do absolutely nothing or continue as normal until you’re told differently,’ said Scott.

‘We always planned to release our squad [yesterday] but it’s provisional, because we know anything can happen over the next few months.’

He added: ‘The squad speaks for itself. We’ve got strength in depth and we have the experience needed for tournament football.’

Scott added that a second ConIFA conference call is scheduled for 31 March to discuss further developments. Member regions took part in a two-hour call last week to assess the options.
