Tunnah opts for Reds exit

The former hooker is set to end his three-year stay with the Championship club this summer, after helping steer the Islanders to consecutive record-finishes in the second tier while maintaining their status as one of the league’s greatest breeding grounds for top-flight rugby.

Tunnah, who coached alongside former Wallaby Jim Williams at the Greater Sydney Rams before his move to Jersey, has not confirmed his onward plans.

‘I’d like to thank everyone at The Reds for the last three seasons in Jersey, particularly Harvey [Biljon] and the club for the opportunity to relocate here and challenge myself in a new environment.

‘The club has played a huge part in my development as a coach at this stage of my career. Over the course of the last three seasons I have been challenged to think and coach in ways that will shape my coaching for the rest of my career.’

Reds’ director or rugby Biljon said: ‘While Neil has challenged and brought new ideas, he has also been a fantastic support to me during his time with the Reds. He has had a really positive influence on the players and enhanced our reputation of continuing to transition players from the Championship up to the Premiership.’

Jersey claimed fifth and fourth in the Championship in the two completed seasons Tunnah has served.
