President faces call for resignation

A week after the committee survived a vote of no confidence by just one vote, St John Deputy Phil Rondel called for Senator Norman to stand down after the Senator read out a statement regarding the insurance situation of Emeraude’s ship, Solidor 5.Senator Norman said that he had not fully understood the implications of the insurance cover and apologised to the House, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity to clarify the matter. He explained that ownership of Solidor 5 had not changed and that therefore insurance remained the responsibility of the owner.

If damage occurred to the vessel while it was impounded, that would be a matter for Emeraude.

Senator Norman added that if loss was caused by neglect, error or advice by an officer of the States of Jersey, the owner could claim against the relevant port operator.’From this’, the Senator said ‘Members will understand that the States were not exposed to any financial risk while the Solidor 5 was detained.’
