And the first legislative steps have been taken to raise the age at which teenagers can buy cigarettes, from 16 to 18.States Members yesterday approved a four-year Tobacco Strategy which calls for a raft of measures to reduce tobacco consumption.
Health and Social Services president Senator Stuart Syvret said that he expected the measures recommended to be law within the year.However, a majority of 37 Members to eight voted not to amend the strategy to include a ban on smoking in pubs.
