And there are worries that the number of jobless people could be even higher because many of them do not register with Employment and Social Security.Latest figures show that by the end of October 485 people were registered unemployed, compared to 218 this time last year.Many of those registered unemployed have been in Jersey for ten years or more.Although there have been a number of high-profile redundancies in the finance industry over the last 12 months, the finger of blame is being pointed at the slowdown in the construction industry.But according to Mark Palfrey , president of the Jersey Building and Allied Trades Employers Federation, it is a combination of both industries slowing down that has caused the steep rise in unemployment.Anyone who is unemployed and has not registered with Employment and Social Services has been asked to call 280000 to make an appointment.
