Le Roux came out at a fast pace, hitting hard, but Furness was able to take the pace off the ball and in reply put in some very good winners at the front of the court.
In a rather disappointing, one-sided match, Furness went on to win 3-0.Similarly, in the men’s B final only one player ever looked destined to win, but this time it was the No 2 seed, Scott Gautier.
Playing against No 1 seed Sean Blake, Gautier proved he was on top form from start, as he moved his opponent constantly around the court.Gautier ran out a comfortable winner, hitting the ball crisply and winning 3-0.The Men’s Vets final saw Channel Islands champion Hugh Jones proving to be too much of a match for Steve Law.Jones always had an answer for everthing that Law hit at him, and was also scoring points with some great volley drops.
Law, constantly under pressure, lost 3-0.In the Men’s B plate Guy Wildy proved too strong for the improving John Best; Wildy won 3-0.
In the Men’s Vets plate Ray Hockey beat David Tupper 3-1.
Hockey’s short game proved too much for Tupper who, in the end, simply ran out of steam.The first event of the weekend finals featured nine-year-old Callum Rabet beating 11-year-old James Robinson in the final of the under-15 mixed plate.Although a newcomer, Rabet got off to a flying start with some very good serves and when he got in the rallies he picked up everything that Robinson could throw at him.
Despite fighting hard Robinson went down in straight sets, 3-0.In the play-off for third and fourth place Adam Spring proved too strong for the battling Tam Weston.
The final of the under-15 mixed the Duquemin twins, Ben and Ollie, and it lived up to its expected billing as both players moved around the court, never allowing the other twin serious advantage.
After Ollie had gone into a 2-1 lead Ben looked down and out, but he fought back to level the match.
Then Ollie came out the stronger to take the final game, and the match, 3-2.
