Walker wins at Rockingham

More importantly the St Martin teenager took his sixth Scholarship victory of the season after being taken out by a Senior class car in Saturday’s race when leading the category.

With the results from that race determining the grid for Sunday, Walker had his work cut out.’Before the race I would have settled for second behind title rival Stephen Jelley, but after a couple of laps I latched onto the back of him and Jay Howard.

‘There was a tangle at Tarzan and I grabbed the chance,’ he said. Now leading the class and sixth overall, Walker wasn’t finished and had a grandstand view of a spectacular accident at the high speed chicane.’We were charging off the banking at well over 100 mph when my team mate Stuart Hall got involved with another car and smacked the wall right in front of me.

‘At that speed its just reflexes – I was like Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder!’It’s the third time this season Walker has finished on the overall podium.’While the championship is the main goal, I do fancy an overall win – not least for the £10 000 prize for any Scholarship driver who can do so!’Walker continues his challenge for the championship at Croft on 12 and 13 July.
