DURRELL’S pantomime ‘The Frog Prince: A Pantomime with a Hoppy Ending’ has lived up to its name by winning national commendation for its conservation message.
The panto, written by conservation education assistant Naomi Webster, pictured, and performed in January this year, has also been performed by staff at the Edinburgh Zoo. ‘The Frog Prince’ highlighted the plight of the world’s amphibians and Durrell’s conservation work to save them.
Ms Webster chose her storyline to promote 2008 as the Year of the Frog. Her efforts won a commendation from the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria in the category for best informal education project: visitor and general public.
The panto starred staff and volunteers, with lighting and costumes from the Arts Centre and Jersey Amateur Dramatic Club. It had a two-night run and raised £2,200 for the amphibian campaign. Naomi has written another show which is due to be performed for the public in Durrell’s education centre from 23 January to 25 January.
