UP and coming youngsters showed the more established runners the way home in race two of the Graeme Le Maistre Cross Country Series on Sunday
Raced over five laps of the course at Pont Marquet Country Park, just over four miles, teenager Toby Edwards won from triathlete and Commonwealth Games swimmer Dan Halksworth.
Edwards went off hard from the start and opened up a clear lead over Halksworth, who despite his best efforts was still 27 seconds behind at the finish.
Under 17 Wade Le Marquand ran a fantastic race to place third, followed by U15 runner Elliot Dorey who performed superbly for one so young and deservedly took the ‘Run of the Day’ award.
Veteran Jon Coote finished fifth, just out sprinting Jo Gorrod, the first lady home. Under 17 girl Flick Johnson-Deeley had a great run as well, coping with the conditions to finish tenth and second lady – and beating her father Jack, who has been running well recently, by over a minute.
