Concern grows over prison mobile use

The Royal Court has seen two separate cases in the past week involving inmates orchestrating drug-related deals and criminal activities from their cells at La Moye prison.

Home Affairs Assistant Minister Andrew Lewis has once again raised the question of blocking mobile telephone signals to the prison to prevent illicit phone use.

‘It is a problem in all prisons,’ said Deputy Lewis. ‘Currently legislation does not permit us to block signals. But we are looking to see if there is another way of doing it.’
