Director John Carter said that it was down to the popularity of the Mammoth and Marilyn Monroe exhibitions. He added that it showed what could be done if Heritage could afford to bring in exciting new collections and market them effectively.
Overall, the organisations income rose by 2.68 per cent. However, Mr Carter said that the upturn in business was not enough on its own to save some of its visitor sites.
For several months, Jersey Heritage has been seeking extra money from the States to fund its custodianship of many of Jersey’s most important historical buildings.
Mr Carter has warned that Hamptonne, the Maritime Museum and the Occupation Tapestry Gallery will be closed at the end of the year unless more public cash is forthcoming. Staff have already been warned that redundancies are in the offing.
