MacRae targets back-to-back promotions

Jersey waltzed through the tournament in South Africa with the five-wicket win over Germany being perhaps their closest match. The Islanders thrashed Qatar by seven wickets in the semi-final on Thursday to claim promotion and clinched an equally impressive 120-run win over Vanuatu in Saturday’s showdown.

The ease with which they have claimed a third successive Division 5 title shows that Jersey are more than capable of competing in Division 4, according to head coach MacRae, but he wants his current squad to lead the Island into uncharted territory.

Jersey have reached the lofty heights of Division 4 on three previous occasions but each time they have suffered an immediate relegation.

‘We’ve improved over the last three tournaments, from Division 5 in Jersey last May, Los Angeles last autumn and now this,’ he said.

‘The side is becoming more consistent, they are understanding how to be more aggressive on flat pitches, which we’ve dealt with in both LA and here in Benoni. It’s still a young side, but we now have the right level of experience to take on Division 4 and get promoted from that as well.’
