Webinar to focus on regeneration

THE way in which regenerative design can help businesses to be responsible for what they create and also drive innovative solutions for the benefit of their organisation and the environment is the subject of a free webinar taking place later this month.

The event, organised by the IoD Jersey environment sub-committee, has been devised in response to the challenges of climate change, cost of living, environmental breakdown and political unrest.

IoD Jersey environment sub-committee chair Elaine Walsh said: ‘All organisations are operating in complex situations where understanding the impact they have on the world, and how that can work with their business strategy, isn’t easy. This webinar and expert panel will look at sustainability from a whole system, process-orientated approach.’

The workshop will focus on three areas of regenerative development, which is said to offer a ‘new way to tackle these system failures, building on a rich history of theory and frameworks’. The topics to be explored at the webinar are:

lAn ecological worldview – the principles of interrelation and whole systems perspective.

lIsland regenerative innovation – why Jersey is well positioned to practise regenerative development.

lReplication over scale – who’s doing it elsewhere and how to spot the difference.

Panel members include Nelis regenerative practitioner Taylor Smythe, India Hamilton, founder and board member of SCOOP and Hypha Consulting, and Ms Walsh.

Ms Hamilton said: ‘Regenerative design is based on ecological theory and systems thinking. The idea is that organisations can utilise this way of thinking to restore, renew or revitalise their processes and outputs. It encourages a fresh way of meeting old challenges that isn’t just a sustainable way forward but creates positive net gains for the business and the environment.’

The event takes place from noon to 1.15pm on Thursday 23 February and is free to both IoD members and non-members. Registration can be completed at eventbrite.com/e/a-sustainable-future-systems-thinking-tickets-496250457477.
