Man to stand trial accused of attempting to murder toddler

A man accused of attempting to murder a two-year-old boy and assaulting a five-year-old is to stand trial in March.

David McMullen, 34, is accused of attacking the child at an address in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, on December 21, 2016.

Prosecutors allege he inflicted “blunt force trauma” on the boy’s body by unknown means to his severe injury and to the danger of his life and attempted to murder him.

McMullen is also accused of assaulting the same child on various occasions between June and December that year.

It is alleged he seized the child and prodded him with his fingers and inflicted blunt force trauma to his head and body by unknown means.

He also faces a charge of assaulting a five-year-old boy at an address in Linwood, Renfrewshire, on May 4, 2009 and placing him in a bath of hot water to his severe injury.

McMullen, from Glasgow, denies all the charges against him.

At the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, Lord Boyd set a trial date for March 4.
