Probe into boy’s death treated as murder inquiry

An investigation into the death of an 11-year-old boy in Limerick is a murder inquiry, gardai have said.

A man arrested in connection with the death of Brooklyn Colbert on Sunday night remained in custody on Tuesday afternoon.

Brooklyn’s body was discovered in a house in the Ballynanty area of Limerick shortly after 7pm on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, who is aged in his twenties, was detained by gardai shortly after Brooklyn was found dead. He was held at Henry Street Garda Station.

The Garda issued a renewed appeal for information about the fatal incident on Tuesday.

“The man in his twenties arrested in connection with a murder inquiry in Limerick remains in Garda custody under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984,” said a statement.

“Investigating gardai have renewed their appeal for information in relation to this incident.

“Any person who was in the vicinity of Shanabooley Road, Ballynanty, or in the Moyross area between 4pm and 7pm on Sunday night (November 3) and who saw anything suspicious, or any person who may have information in relation to this investigation, is asked to contact the incident room at Mayorstone Park Garda Station on 061 456989, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
