Murder investigation started following death of man stabbed in east London

A murder investigation has started following the death of a man who was stabbed in east London.

Police were called to reports of an incident in Romford Road, Forest Gate, near the junction with Woodgrange Road, on August 10.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found 38-year-old Saley Beya with stab injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but died on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said.

On Sunday, the force said a 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with section 18 GBH and it will be liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service to amend the indictment.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, is leading the investigation and said: “We still need people with information to come forward and tell us what they know about this tragic incident.

“Our inquiries have established that there was traffic in Romford Road, including two buses, and people would have seen these events unfold. There was also a car which had to stop in the road as the attack took place.

“I would urge anyone who saw this incident, or anyone who took images or footage of the attack, to get in contact immediately.”

Hamza Shahmonhiran Kamali, 28, of Henniker Road, E15, appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on August 19 charged with section 18 GBH.

He was remanded in custody to next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 16.
