Second night of violence in French city over police shooting

The western French city of Nantes has undergone a second night of violence over the fatal police shooting of a driver apparently trying to avoid an identity check.

Protesters clashed with riot police overnight into Thursday, burning shops and cars.

Eleven people have been detained in connection with the violence.

Authorities have said the man had been sought under a year-old arrest warrant for an alleged robbery south of Paris, and had given police a false identity when stopped in Nantes.

A silent march has been planned for Thursday evening in Nantes over his death.
