The average UK motorist waits until the last 20 miles of range left in their tanks before refuelling, new research has revealed.
A survey of 2,430 car owners by discount and offers website VoucherCodesPro revealed the average drivers leaves it late to fuel up.
Of those who admitted to leaving it late to refuel, 28 per cent said they did so as a result of looking for a cheap petrol station, with 22 per cent saying they wanted to get the most out of a tank. Some even just simply forgot, with 17 per cent saying it didn’t cross their mind.
Further still, 87 per cent of all participants even confessed to having run out of fuel at least once.
“It’s crazy how many people think it’s good to run down your car to the last miles – this doesn’t save you money and it can actually damage some makes of car.”
