Honda has lifted the lid on its CR-V Hybrid Prototype ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The CR-V, set to make its public debut at Frankfurt next week, previews Honda’s first European-bound electrified SUV.
A combination of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder VTEC engine and two electric motors make up the hybrid system for the prototype, which is coupled to a single fixed-gear transmission that “enables a smoother transfer of torque within the system”.
The system is also capable of determining how to use fuel and electrical energy most efficiently and effectively, meaning the driver doesn’t have to select driving modes manually.
As well as previewing a new hybrid powertrain, the prototype also showcases new styling that will feature on the upcoming CR-V range.

These include thinner A-pillars, larger wheels and sharper design elements to give the car a broader and more muscular stance, as well as featuring the Japanese manufacturer’s current trademark grille.
Honda has also announced that a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be available for the 2018 CR-V, with either a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission. No diesel engines will feature in the line-up.
More details of the European CR-V are set to be revealed early next year, including pricing, with the car available to order soon after.
