P&R president to address CPA

The Senator, who is president of the Policy and Resources Committee, is due to talk at a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting in England about the need to connect with the community.Speaking ahead of the meeting, he said: ‘I will be laying down the facts about the way that is happening in Jersey, or more precisely, that frequently it does not happen.

The issues of low turnouts at elections, a lack of trust in the Assembly, and then putting forward some solutions.’Senator Walker added that the situation was not unique to the Island and was reflected in other jurisdictions.He is leading the Jersey delegation at the 34th conference of the CPA’s British Islands and Mediterranean Region, which started in London on Tuesday before moving to Cambridge, where the Senator will speak today.Also representing Jersey at the conference is Senator Jean Le Maistre, and Deputies Geoffrey Grime and Sarah Ferguson.The meeting is being hosted by the UK branch of the association and delegates will be attending from other jurisdictions, including Gibraltar, Cyprus, Malta, St Helena and the Falkland Islands.
