Woman escapes possible sexual attack

The assault took place at the Tunnel roundabout entrance to Snow Hill car park at around 2 am as the 27-year-old victim walked to a friend’s house alone.

The area was cordoned off this morning as scenes of crime officers moved in to collect forensic evidence. The attacker was distracted when a beige car, possibly a Ford Fiesta, drove out of the car park.

In the confusion, the woman screamed, managed to fight off the man and fled towards Route du Fort, where she flagged down a taxi that took her home. She suffered grazing to her right elbow and back, and a bruised leg.

Insp Sara Garwood said officers were keen to speak to both the taxi driver and the driver of the beige car.The man is described as being 5 ft 10 in tall, of proportionate build with short cropped mousey brown hair.

He was wearing a black T-shirt with white or grey writing across the chest and dark jeans.

The woman was being interviewed today and a fuller description of her attacker was expected to emerge.Insp Garwood said: ‘The taxi driver might have been the first person to speak to her after the attack and whatever she said could be very important.’
