Lowery pipped to British Isles final

Lowery was pipped to the post by Iain McLean of the host country in an under 25 singles semi-final that was full of skill and fine touches. After trailing, 6-12, the 23-year-old Jersey star fought back gamely to square the match at 12-12, and was still neck-and-neck at 19-19 after 26 ends, then two singles gave victory to the Scot.A Jersey quartet – Jamie McDonald, John Lowery, Thomas Greechan and Lee Nixon – held an 11-6 lead over a Welsh rink skipped by Harding, but conceded 14 shots in six ends to trail, 11-21, after 16 ends.A fighting finish saw them pick up a three on the 17th and a six on the 18th, and Nixon had a chance of winning the match with his last bowl, only to miss by a fraction, as Wales won, 25-22.Jersey duo Ken McNeil and Thomas Greechan dropped the first 11 shots against the English pairs champions and although they scored 20 shots to their opponents’ 12 over the next 17 ends, they had to give best, 23-20.Talking of bad starts, Jersey trio Jock Wilkins, John Cabot and Danny Le Marquand dropped two fours on the opening ends of their triples semi-final with Wales, and were playing catch-up all the way to the 19-14 final scoreline.
