St Helier: Sale of two minor roads could make £95,000

The sale likely to affect the public the most would be Seale Street Cutting to a private buyer for £80,000 plus legal fees. The sale would be dependent on the Royal Court agreeing to the extinguishment of the road. This road, which is 728 sq ft in area, extends from the back of the pavement line on the north side of Sand Street to a similar position on the south side of Seale Street. The report accompanying the proposition, due to go before the parish assembly, says that the loss of this section of road would assist in reducing the amount of traffic using Seale Street while still leaving access from the west end.Parishioners will also be asked to approve the ceding of part of the parish car park adjacent to the former Inn on the Park to developers of that site in exchange for ridding the parish of the liability of keeping the rockface there secure. An approach has been made to the parish on behalf of the developing company by Dandara (Jersey) Ltd to do the deal. The Constable Simon Crowcroft said today that with the parish currently having responsibility for the upper half of the cliff, there would be a liability if people were injured or property damaged during another rockfall. The third proposal, should the Royal Court agree, is to sell for £15,000 a section of land in Old St Andrew’s Road – extinguished years ago because of the unacceptably dangerous exit onto Mont Cochon. The land would be used by the buyer for open space and/or parking. The meeting, including an election for Vingtenier following the expiry of Mitch Couriard’s term, starts in the Assembly Room at 7 pm.
