But the heatwave is not all good news – while beachgoers are making the most of the summer, the Jersey New Waterworks Company is anxiously watching supplies.Company chief engineer Howard Snowden said unless consumption is reduced, they will have to consider introducing restrictions.
And that is something the company has not had to resort to since before Queen’s Valley reservoir became operational 12 years ago.The desalination plant has been running for two weeks, pumping 1.5 million gallons into the Island’s mains water supply.
Mr Snowden said that is equivalent to what consumers are currently using to water their gardens.The company could get a respite from Sunday when thundery weather is forecast for a couple of days, but principal met officer Tony Pallot said the front would probably only bring a few spots of rain.
