Old Victorians slipped to a heavy defeat at Grainville against Guernsey’s Cobo while St Ouen returned from Guernsey with a four-wicket success against Rovers.The results set up two interesting semi-finals, on Saturday 16 August, with cup-holders Sporting Club hosting Cobo at Grainville, while St Ouen will travel again to play Optimists.OVs skipper Tim Butlin said: ‘Cobo outplayed us in every department on Saturday, they were deserved winners and I think they’ll be very difficult to beat in this competition.’They have a good sprinkling of Island players and if Jeremy Frith and Stuart Le Prevost maintain the form they produced against us I can’t see anyone beating them.’Frith and Le Prevost put on a third-wicket partnership of 102 with Le Prevost top-scoring in a total of 237 for 7 with 71.

Cobo defeated OVs by 103 runs.Chris Searson’s ten-over spell yielded four wickets for 29 runs while batting-wise OVs struggled as only Island under-25 players Owen Hughes and James Mashiter reached scores in the 30s as the team were all out with 9.3 overs remaining.St Ouen, in a 40-overs-a-side match, made early inroads against Rovers only for the Guernsey side to eventually set a testing score on a variable bounce and paced track.

Aaron Scoones top-scored for Rovers with an undefeated 50.St Ouen turned in their best fielding and bowling display of the season and all five bowlers played their part in curbing the flow of runs.St Ouen struggled early on in their reply and at 65 for 5 victory looked a long way off.

But mainstays Paul Horton and Dave Clark slowly laid the foundations for the win.Clark was eventually out before the final runs were scored while Horton finished on 29 not out after a little cameo from Danny Moffat.Wil Kay’s half-century helped steer St Ouen Reserves to victory in the semi-final of the Minor Cup while JICC and tourists King’s School Worcester recorded a win apiece against each other in a two-match series.
