The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been accused of wilfully neglecting four children under the age of 16 between 1 January and 15 July in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
She has reserved her plea.Further charges including attempting to pervert the course of justice and harbouring young offenders are likely to be brought.In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday police legal adviser Advocate Caitriona Fogarty said that the woman had engaged in unhealthy relationships with a number of juvenile offenders.Miss Fogarty described her as ‘a gangsters’ moll to a pack of adolescent crooks’, a description to which the woman’s defence advocate objected.Relief Magistrate Terry Sowden QC refused bail and remanded the woman in custody.
