P & R resist scrutiny challenges

The senior committee believe that the proposals put forward by Privileges and Procedures are ‘well-researched and well-argued’ and do not warrant the amendments from either Deputy Jerry Dorey or Senator Stuart Syvret.Deputy Dorey’s amendments touch on the scrutiny panels’ responsibility and the degree of policy involvement.

And Senator Syvret wants the controversial ‘call-in’ mechanism – it allows for the temporary freezing of an executive decision – to be introduced from the start rather than allowing the panels 12 months to establish themselves. In comments lodged with the States on Tuesday, P & R express their opposition to all the amendments.
