Traffic wardens criticised

While going through the parking cases in the Magistrate’s Court, Assistant Magistrate Ian Christmas requested ‘a little compassion and humanity’ from the Island’s parking control officers. He was speaking during a case in which a traffic warden had gone running down the road to give a ticket to a taxi driver who was helping someone with a broken leg into his car.

Mr Christmas said that the story had melted his heart and he asked wardens to have some discretion. His request came as he expressed his frustration at the number of cases in which tickets were issued regardless of the circumstances.

‘I see this week after week after week,’ said Mr Christmas.

‘I wish traffic wardens would use a little discretion when issuing tickets.

This story has melted my heart and I hope it would have done the same had I been the parking control officer.’
