The all-party Transport Committee published its report on the future of British aviation last week.
In it, the committee urges the UK government to seek revisions to current regulations to make sure that routes to the Crown Dependencies can be protected. It states: ‘If the Department for Transport feels that existing slot allocation protection rules do not allow the UK to protect profit-making regional air links to the Crown Dependencies, it must press for revisions which make this possible.’The Economic Development Committee, through Senator Len Norman and adviser Colin Powell, gave evidence to the Transport Committee in April, when it stressed the importance to the Island of essential air access to London’s key airports and the need for slot protection.
