After the riders meet at West Park, the race is ‘neutralised’ until they have passed through the traffic lights, then the hard slog of steep climbs and fast downhills begins in earnest.Up to 25 riders will race from Beaumont to St Aubin, to Woodbine Corner, to St Brelade Bay, past the church and on to Beauport, on to Corbière, clockwise, down La Pulente to the Five Mile Road, past L’Etacq and up the hill to Grosnez, on to Grève de Lecq, Mourier Valley, Bonne Nuit, Bouley Bay, Rozel, Fliquet, around the rock at St Catherine’s, up to St Martin, past Ransom’s and then St Saviour’s Hospital before reaching the finishing line near La Hougue Bie.Ali Cann won the race in 2002 although he will be pushed hard this year by Sam Firby and Chris Spence.All riders in this first-past-the-line road race should have finished in under two hours.
