Established in 1957, the BCS is the only chartered institution for IT professionals and sets key standards for competence and good practice in the computer and information systems sector.
The Jersey branch, which is a sub-branch of the Hampshire BCS, will hold its inaugural meeting tomorrow at Highlands College, and all those with an interest in IT are invited.

BCS representatives will be on hand to talk about the benefits of BCS membership, give career advice and detail the European Computer Driving Licence, which the BCS manages and promotes.

As the Island becomes increasingly reliant on information technology, we need a mechanism to ensure that the profession has a means of assessing competence and integrity,’ said Brett Sumner, who has been driving the initiative to set up a branch in Jersey.
BCS membership provides just that, with a recognised framework for professional development and the very highest standards of professionalism and codes of ethical practice.
The aims of the Jersey sub-branch will be to provide an organisation for members of the society to meet regularly and discuss both local and general IT issues and to promote the profession within the Island.
We also hope to increase awareness in schools – by attending careers fairs and providing information – of the broad spectrum of IT careers now available and the many ways in which young people can become involved in IT.
