Football:Smith poised to leave Scottish

Smith has signed for the Scots but he is currently training with Trinity having obtained the necessary permission from his Club and the flybe Jersey Football Combination.Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘Charlie wants away and there is nothing we can do about it; it’s amateur football.’It’s disappointing to lose him, he was one of our better players last season but if he doesn’t want to play for us then I see no point in holding on to him.’Kearsey said that Scottish have a couple of new signings in the pipeline but he would not say who until they had signed for the club officially.Kearsey added: ‘We’ll be looking to mount a title challenge this season; we were favourites last season but I don’t think we will be this time.

Last season we let ourselves down a bit in games against the so-called lesser teams so we’ll be looking for an improvement and be 100 per cent focused in every game we play.’Smith is unable to play for Trinity until his transfer is approved early in September.Jersey Wanderers have registered the signing of former Muratti captain Craig Grant today.

Grant joins up with current Muratti captain Bradley Vowden again – both players were with First Tower United last season.Wanderers have also picked up former Swindon Town professional Chris Hamon from St Peter while Martin Cassidy, another ex-Muratti midfielder, has left Wanderers for St Peter.Cassidy’s brother Jay is also on his way out of Wanderers, he has been granted permission to train with Division I newcomers Rozel Rovers.Another Tower player, Lee Bramley who did not kick a ball for the club last season, has also signed for St Peter.Jersey’s football season kicks off with the Jersey Football Association’s Charity Cup competition, the opening games are on Monday 11 August between Magpies and St Peter at the IJ Bathe Field; St Brelade v St Ouen at St Brelade and Sporting Academics and First Tower at Les Quennevais.
