The former joint-manager of St Peter FC takes over from Jon Trigg who stood down recently after coaching Jersey to the bronze medal position in the Island Games in Guernsey earlier this month.Houghton stood down from his St Peter position before the start of last season but he has remained at the club helping to coach the parish club’s under-12 and under-14 players.Matthews said: ‘I’m delighted Tim has come aboard, he has a wealth of experience and like previous coach Jon Trigg he is very professional.’I worked with Tim at St Peter for three years as well and I like the way he operates and does things and I’m sure he will be good for the Island’s teams.’Houghton (34), a former professional at Fulham and a semi-pro in the Conference League for Farnborough and Woking, said: ‘I’m looking forward to teaming up with Dave again and working with the best players in the Island.

I’m delighted Jersey are again playing in the South West Counties Championship next season and I’m hopeful they will continue to do well.’Houghton, a UEFA B coach who has been at St Peter for 12 years, helped the parish club retain the flybe Combination Division I title and Upton Park Trophy in his only season in charge at St Peter, alongside former Muratti captain Ricky Muddyman, in 2001-02.
